LIBERTY SQUARE RIVERBOATS landing pavilion sign Liberty Square, Walt Disney World . Circa 1976 1978Original used sign prop - painted wood : blue , white and cream . ( the lettering is in two colors but may not show up in the auction images ) Approximately 22”x21” Sign insert panel only - no frame is included . This sign’s actual date is unknown … it most likely is from the 1976-1978 period. From 1971 until 1973 the Magic Kingdom operated one one 2 stack riverboat : THE ADMIRAL JOE FOWLER. In 1973 a second steamboat , THE RICHARD F IRVINE joined service. The 1973 river boat signs featured one boat per sign .., by 1974 the left and right signs featured both boats until 1978 after a accident caused the removal of the ADMIRAL JOE FOWLER resulting back to a single riverboat attraction. In the 90’s the RICHARD F IRVINE was re-named THE LIBERTY BELLE. I would say that this could have been marketed as a vesta, made to hold matches or spills. There is a section to the back and a deliberate rough patch which could be to strike the match. h- 16.0 cm, 160 mm.
